Navicure, a leading provider of Web-based account receivables management solutions for physician practices, today announced a strategic partnership with the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), the largest training and credentialing association for the business side of medicine. Through this alliance, the two organizations will work in tandem to develop in-depth educational resources to help ensure practices successfully transition to the new HIPAA 5010 standard and ICD-10 code set over the next few years.

“Practices often think about 5010 and ICD-10 as one transition, when in reality these are two very distinct transitions that will require two independent transition plans and schedules,” said AAPC CEO and president Deb Grider. “Until now, medical practices have not had enough access to information that will help them work towards a successful 5010 transition by Jan. 1, 2012 while still preparing for the ICD-10 deadline on Oct. 1, 2013. The closer we get to each deadline, the more helpful and crucial this information will be.”

As part of the partnership, AAPC and Navicure have already developed several initiatives to provide the industry with the most current information about the two transitions. These initiatives include:

  • ICD-10 Hub (www.icd10hub.com): This new website is dedicated to making the 5010 and ICD-10 transitions easier on everyone in a physician practice and includes implementation timelines and checklists for the transitions. The site will continuously be updated with the latest news about both transitions and is a hub of resources for anyone involved in either transition.
  • Regional Dinners: These dinners are currently being held at various locations around the nation, each featuring AAPC-accredited industry experts who discuss steps practices can take to ensure a smooth transition to ICD-10.
  • Webinar Series: AAPC and Navicure are co-hosting a series of webinars throughout 2011 focusing on different aspects of 5010 and ICD-10, such as challenges that can occur during transition and tips for a successful implementation. The first of the series occurred on March 24, and is currently available for download at ICD10Hub.com and Navicure.com

“Our partnership aims at helping everyone in healthcare better understand both transitions. We know that AAPC’s extensive knowledge of ICD-10 combined with Navicure’s industry-leading approach to the 5010 transition will help to create a knowledge base everyone can use to complete these transitions,” Grider added.

“The entire healthcare industry realizes that 5010 and ICD-10 are right around the corner and people are looking for concrete sources of information about what steps they need to take now to ensure they are prepared,” said Jim Denny, founder, president and CEO of Navicure. “By working with AAPC we have already been able to create numerous resources that can be leveraged by any medical practice. Over the coming months and years, I am certain that this partnership will continue to provide great educational material for the industry.”

More information about the regional dinners or webinar series can be found on www.ICD10Hub.com or www.Navicure.com.

The AAPC was founded in 1988 to provide education and professional certification to physician-based medical coders and to elevate the standards of medical coding by providing student training, certification, ongoing education, networking and job opportunities. Currently, the AAPC has a membership base of 100,000 worldwide, of which more than 64,000 are certified.
